This study aimed to identify the barriers and enablers that influence people with disabilities who want to participate in Immersion Therapy (IT). IT is a unique underwater service that uses scuba equipment to help individuals with disabilities move more freely in a supportive aquatic environment.
The research, which involved a survey and interviews with participants, found that:
The main barriers were:
The distance to the facility, the accessibility of the facilities, and anxiety about participating.
The main enablers were found to be:
The support from the staff, the safety of the pool sessions, and the lack of pressure to participate. The study’s findings are intended to help improve treatment pathways and make the program more accessible.
