This project, “Exploring the Physical and Psychosocial Experience of Immersion Therapy™ for People Living with a Disability,” is based on three studies that aimed to evaluate Immersion Therapy (IT). IT is a SCUBA-based experience for people with disabilities, and it provides individualized, client-cantered sessions using SCUBA equipment in a pool.

The research found that there’s limited evidence on the effectiveness of SCUBA interventions for people with disabilities. However, the case study portion of the project showed that participants described IT as a positive, physically rewarding, and socially supportive experience. Participants also felt a sense of freedom and enjoyment during the sessions.

The project’s findings suggest that while more research is needed, Immersion Therapy is a valuable and unique experience for people with disabilities. It provides a solid foundation for future, more rigorous research to continue.
