Terms and Conditions for the
Immersion Therapy
TM Service

What is Immersion TherapyTM?

You might be asking yourself what is Immersion Therapy™? and that’s a great question.

The Immersion Therapy service is becoming recognised across Australia and Internationally as a world first way in which people with injury or disability can have access to movement and benefits like never before, winning the 2016 National Disability Awards in Canberra for Excellence in Inclusive Service Delivery. These awards are internationally recognised as part of the United Nations International Day of People with Disability, you can view images and video footage on our website. As they say, “A picture speaks a thousand words”.

The Immersion Therapy™ service was specially developed to offer freedom of movement within a weightless environment and work within the well-recognised benefits of a Biopsychosocial model. It has demonstrated great results for those who have participated.

Approvals and Recognition in South Australia

Immersion Therapy™ is an approved service to the following funders:

  • Return to Work SA
  • Employers Mutual (EML)
  • Gallagher Bassett (GB)
  • Lifetime Support Authority (LSA)
  • DisabilitySA (DSPP)
  • National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS)

Who are our Clients?

Immersion Therapy™ has been accessed by a wide consumer group of individuals and I would not limit the specific benefits to any one type of condition. We work with children and adults living with physical and intellectual disabilities, people with injuries varying from mild to severe and those living with serious medical conditions.

The whole philosophy behind Immersion Therapy™ is exploring the benefits “with” the client and being open to new and exciting opportunities as they present. We have been overwhelmed on many occasions by following this rule of thumb.

To date we have worked with people living with, but not limited to :

  • Complete and in-complete spinal cord injuries from L1-C4
  • Single and multiple amputations
  • Acquired Brain Injuries Mild-Severe
  • Neurological conditions such as Cerebral Palsy level 1-4 and Neuro Paraplegia
  • Autism high and low functioning
  • PTSD, Anxiety and Depression
  • Dwarfism
  • Post-surgery recovery Shoulders, Knees
  • Back aches and sprains

This broad range of clients and the group setting in which the service is delivered underpins the psychological and social benefits to all that attend. The physical benefits are achieved by being active in a weightless environment while every motion is against resistance, the increases in functional capacity are a very positive by-product for participants.

What we DO NOT offer

Determined2 DOES NOT OFFER lessons in SCUBA diving. We do not teach or certify open water diving. Immersion Therapy™ is not SCUBA diving.

About Determined2

Determined2 was started by Immersion Therapy™ founder Peter Wilson and was the breeding ground for the Immersion Therapy™ service to take place. Forged by his own personal experiences overcoming injury, the company and service was built from the ground up with strong values and a commitment to do things differently. The overwhelming desire to live by the words innovation and inclusion is what ultimately shaped what you see today.

As the first service provider to offer Immersion Therapy™, Determined2 has seen many accolades and recognition for its work, however, none of this really matters unless it has happy and satisfied people accessing the service. Seeing people exceed theirs, and other’s expectations is fuel for the fires of success.

Determined2 will continue to play a major role in both delivery of the service and continued innovation of the service. It will also drive the growth and expansion of Immersion Therapy across Australia and hopefully the world as part of the push to see as many people enjoying this very unique and special service.

Our motto is the following:

Our service is defined by our Person-Centred Approach and our staff are dedicated to you the individual. Immersion TherapyTM is your journey beyond boundaries.

“Anything is possible when you are Determined2”.

Fitness to Participate

There are no physical restrictions to accessing Immersion TherapyTM. All clients will undergo a medical assessment with an approved physician before any full body Immersion sessions take place. The assessment is done in line with the Immersion TherapyTM Key Medical Standards. You must have first attended a Meet and Greet session prior to receiving assessment.

Determined2 will provide you with a list of approved physicians at the Meet and Greet session and we will also make an initial assessment classification about your service suitability.

Medical Assessments

The certificate received as part of the Immersion TherapyTM assessment is not a fitness to dive certificate. The document certifies the Applicant as medically fit to participate in Immersion TherapyTM. The certificate is not valid for any other purpose. For the avoidance of doubt, the certificate DOES NOT certify fitness to participate in Open Water Diving or in any use of SCUBA equipment outside of the authorised application of Immersion Therapy. The certificate is to be used in conjunction with the approved Policies and Procedures of Immersion Therapy and the applicant must comply with those Policies and Procedures as well as the instructions of authorised Immersion Therapy providers.

Participant to Staff Ratios

The Immersion TherapyTM service is delivered 1 to 1 and in some cases more than one staff member may be required to safely deliver the service. All staff to client ratios are decided in line with the Immersion TherapyTM guidelines and the client’s classification.

All staff members have been specially trained under the Immersion TherapyTM training standards and guidelines.

Age Limitations

The use of SCUBA equipment can be unsafe and very dangerous for younger children. In line with medical guidelines, we do not offer the use of SCUBA equipment to children under the age of 10. For further information, you should seek professional advice from your local hyperbaric specialist. You can find your local specialist by visiting the SPUMS website https://www.spums.org.au/

We can include children under 10 in participating without the equipment, for example on snorkel or just swimming, however, they must have some level of competency in water as we do not teach swimming lessons.
